Summer time is mostly about escaping the oozing heat of the sun. Maybe go to some place really cold where you can ski and snowboard for life. In some cases, it’s enjoying it in a quiet little paradise and savouring every moment of it away from the daily hassles of work. Hawaii for some reason has been the summer hangout of the world. Why not do it at some place that’s not totally typical. Like maybe instead of the Pacific, let’s go for the Atlantic and I have just the perfect place for you.

Bermuda is a group of coral islands in the Atlantic Ocean and is actually a dependency of the United Kingdom. It is usually a popular resort centre not only among the Europeans but also among everyone else. They lie midway between Nova Scotia, Canada and the West Indies about 1,000 kilometers away from New York City. It’s a total haven to all the vacation seekers out there. But first off, let me give you a head start to five of the must see places in the Bermuda Islands.

The Devil’s Hole Aquarium is the first and oldest tourist attraction in Bermuda. Although it has been developed into a well-designed centre, many of its unique and foremost features have been retained. The Devil’s Hole is a natural fish pond where about 300 species of fish can be found. A gift shop and a ship are allotted to give you a personalized sense of enjoyment.

If you’re in search of holy ground, check out the St. Peter’s Church which dates way back to 1619. It has a unique Bermudian woodwork architecture that’s been kept for the past 500 years. The St. Peter’s Church was brought by the first settlers and is a part of the World Heritage Site. Craving for history and new facts? The African Diaspora Trail brings you the meeting place of the African, Caribbean, Native America, and British heritage. It highlights the most of the many interesting points about the islands.

Go beyond your imagination and check out the Crystal and Fantasea Caves of Bermuda Islands. Discovered in 1884, it’s been hailed as a silent world of delicate splendour. Crystal stalactites and stalagmites posing as Mother Nature’s offspring for over 30 million years now, the cave is definitely a must-see attraction.

For the travel junkie on the lookout for action, you might want to go to the Snorkel Park. The hospitality of the locals caters to all the amenities and services of the beach-goers. The water sports are just so cool, it’s just so impossible to stop. The Bar and Grill of the resort offers the tropical favourites and the local foods. This is one place you definitely do not want to miss.

Basically, those are just a few of the many attractions in The Bermuda Islands. The pink sands and the cerulean blue sea make the island more appealing in its own natural way. Setting aside the beach, the treasured heritage of the British dependency should be another magnetic pull for the travel aficionado. Bermuda is a summer haven and there should be no mistaken it.

The process of choosing and booking a family summer holiday can be complicated. When children are small they are more likely to be delighted just to be going on holiday but as the teenage years approach children expect to have their views taken into account: and this is where the trouble can start!

Everybody wants something different:

For teenage children one of the key things they often want on holiday is to be surrounded by children of roughly their own age who they get on with and make friends.

For other people in the family its “does the holiday have potential for some serious relaxation"? For others who might get a bit bored lying by the pool other things that will keep them busy are required (sports and other activities in particular).

So, how do you find a holiday that can possibly satisfy such a diverse range of requirements? One category of holiday that has the potential to do this extremely effectively but which is in some ways is not particularly well known, is the Beach Club holiday. There are a number of suppliers of these types of holiday but they all offer such a variety of things to do, all based at one hotel-style beach location, that everybody’s needs are catered for.

Things the main providers make sure they include are:

Pleasant accommodation: Usually not "five-star" but certainly of a good standard. Normal hotel standards apply in terms of daily cleaning but things like a mini bars and cable TV tend to be a rarity.

A good standard of food and plenty of it: The Beach club operators often have quite a confusing board basis but its normally the equivalent of a hotel’s "half board" with the difference being that is that the main meal of the day is sometimes at lunchtime and sometimes an evening meal. There are almost always snacks available.

A good range of water-sports equipment: This includes canoes, windsurfers and sailing dinghies. The quality of water-sports equipment is usually excellent but as the holiday operators cannot afford to renew their boats every year they are usually a mix of new and "not so new".

Sailing tuition: The operators offer a range of tuition for people wanting to take up new activities (particularly sailing). People can learn sailing skills in a superb, safe, "warm water" environment. "Informal" group training or “clinics” are usually provided free of charge at different times during a weeks holiday but for more formal RYA training specific places need to be booked at the time of booking the holiday.

Kids clubs: Using the term "kids clubs" does not really do justice to what is on offer. The operators typically split the age groups down into three or four age groups and importantly, teenagers are "grouped together" and provided with just enough guidance and support to make sure they have a great time and mix well but are not treated as "children". Also, with so many things to do at the clubs that teenagers can participate in as a group, means all the ingredients are there for a fantastic holiday. For the younger age groups there is always a level of appropriate support and supervision to make sure they have a great time as well. For children under two there is usually a charge whereas clubs the other age groups are usually free.

Relaxing: Beach Clubs by definition are based right beside a beach which will have plenty of sun loungers for those that want to watch the world go by and they nearly all have one or two swimming pools with plenty of space and for those that prefer freshwater swimming.

Other activities: Most Beach Clubs also have a range of mountain bikes and a guide for (early morning!) rides on local trails plus waterskiing, tennis, beauty spas and gymnasiums. The mountain bikes are usually "hard tails” from brands like Specialized, Trek and Orange although some clubs do have the full suspension bikes as well.

In summary, a Beach Club activity holiday offers the choice and variety that makes them one of the best options for keeping any family or small group with a diverse range of holiday requirements happy.

Research in the UK (and this seems to be also true of many other countries) consistently shows that as time goes by and holidaymakers become more and more experienced in overseas travel, they are starting to look for holidays the offer them something slightly more than just lying on the beach or lying by the pool.

As the majority of potential holidaymakers now use the Internet to research their holiday purchase and gain ideas for what sort of holiday might suit them, they are becoming aware of the breadth of activity holidays choices open to them and are more energetically investigating them.

Some key questions need to be answered at the start of the researching and choosing process:

1. What balance does the family want to strike between “relaxation” and “full on” activity?

2. Being realistic, what constraints are placed on the type of holiday your family can enjoy by the ages and physical capabilities of the children?

3. Are there any specific activities or sports that members of the family have set her heart on participating in whilst on holiday?

4. What balance does the family want to strike between being “sociable” on holiday and having their own space?

Once these questions have been answered the next task is to start researching options.

Roughly 80% of people now booking a holiday carry out research on the Internet and this is the obvious place to start but another good source of ideas is to read some of the specialist magazines to cater for the particular activity all sport that you and your family are most interested in. These magazines (for obvious reasons) attract very targeted advertisers and they can be a good source of ideas for potential holiday companies to use.

Although the most common starting point for researching travel on the Internet (and this is no surprise to anybody!) is Google, there are some excellent sources of unbiased information and reviews on sites such as Holiday Watchdog (holidaywatchdog.com) and Trip Advisor (tripadvisor.com). Holiday Watchdog offer opinions from people who have actually stayed in the different properties but Trip Advisor is the best known for independent opinions.

Categories of family activity holiday to worth considering:

The type of family activity holiday that is going to meet the requirements of any particular family will, to a great extent, be dictated by the ages of the children in the family.

With children under about five years old it is definitely worth considering what are generally referred to as “beach club holidays”. These are resort based holidays with excellent child-care facilities for all ages of children from very small baby’s right up to older teenagers.

Most tour operators, and certainly the bigger ones, make sure that the children’s clubs are all staffed by highly professional and qualified teams and that the activities undertaken over the course of a holiday keep the children busy and having a great time. The advantage of these types of holidays is that it frees adults up to take full advantage of the activities on offer which usually include dinghy sailing, day yacht sailing, mountain biking, tennis or simply socialising and lying by the pool. One thing to consider though is that these beach club holidays are often quite sociable, particularly at meal times and around the bar and this may not suit everyone.

Another type of family activity holiday worth considering would be something that includes more “exotic” travel such as an organised family tour to Egypt taking in the Pyramids and major temples and also including a felucca cruise on the Nile. This type of family activity holiday can be said to truly “broaden the mind” and is available in any number of countries including holidays in South America and Europe.

Taking a family on holiday is expensive at any time but where families have to book their holidays during high season in school holidays then top prices usually have to be paid. Having said this, if you are flexible with your destination and departure dates and you are prepared to wait until the last minute then bargains can be found. It is often well worth telephoning the sales departments of the holiday company that interests you to see what they have left – you might get a pleasant surprise!

Bounties of treasures await the visitors of Belize. It is well said by those who have gone there that Belize is an adventurer’s paradise. It is on the Caribbean coast and just two hours away from 3 major U.S. gateways. It has rich wildlife, majestic mountains, mysterious Maya temples, and diving and fishing experiences.

One of the many attractions of Belize includes the Cays. Cays are islands that are located between the mainland and the barrier reef perimeters of the offshore atolls. The mangrove cays serve as a shelter of the many birds, fish shellfish, and marine organisms. The island cays, on the other hand, have provided the foundation for the development of many fine resorts to cater for the water sports enthusiasts and the marine naturalists.

One of the popular cays includes the famous CAE Caulker, second-most popular to the Ambergris CAE- the La Isla Bonita from Madonna’s song. It is located on the Caribbean coast of Belize in Central America. It is considered as a magnet for mid range travellers looking to detach themselves from the world.

Belize is also a haven for those who love fishing. All kinds of fishing can be experienced there. The estuaries, inlets and mouths to the many rivers are known for their tarpon, snook and jack. The lagoons and flats are known for the bone fish, permit and barracuda.

The coral reefs support grouper, snapper, jack and barracuda while the deeper waters off the drop off are home to sailfish, marlin, bonito and pompano. Belize also has 20 major river systems and smaller streams that provide outdoor adventures for the kayak and canoe lovers. It is also an excellent way to bird watch and view wildlife.

There are also many caves in Belize. It is an ideal location for the formation of caves because caves are a common feature in the landscape of Belize. The caves include the Che Chem Ha Cave, Rio Frio Cave, St Herman Cave, Barton Creek Cave, Ben Loman Cave and the Actun Tunichi Muknal Cave.

Though there are thousands of caves in Belize for some reason, one of which includes the protection of the caves archaeological significance many of the caves are closed to public exploration.

Golf courses are also abundant in Belize. Not to mention the Cave Chapel Island Resort Golf Course, it is located just off shore from Belize City on a cave that was developed for the very purpose of golfing and relaxation.

The Maskall Golf course Lodge, located in the Belize District, has a nine-hole jungle setting.
As a country whose history is rooted from the Mayan civilization, Belize is also known from its place Cayo. It is a 1500 square mile district that encompasses a good portion of the Maya Mountains and has more than its fair share of ancient Maya sites.

You will see sea turtles, stingrays, urchins and all the other marine life of the Caribbean. They also have a poll where you can actually swim with the Dolphins and another area where you can feed the sharks from inside a cage. This offers more adventure that you get anywhere else in Cancun.

Next, you might want to take a tour through the jungle and the mangrove forest. This is really getting back to nature. You can take a Wave Runner or speedboat and explore the mangroves. You are going to see a lot wildlife living in these areas, but you will never regret it.

Number 1: Relaxing on the Beach

Now, OK, we said that Caribbean holidays are not just sand and sun but it does merit the first place on our list of favourite reasons to go there. The beaches of the Caribbean are an attraction in themselves. Spend the day sunbathing on the perfect white sand, swimming in the clear blue sea and sipping colourful rum punch cocktails.

Number 2: Diving

You may be surprised but there are many spectacular diving sites in the Caribbean. With such exotic marine life, the crystal clear waters attract divers from all over the world, regardless of skill level. For professionals, it’s the ideal place to explore spectacular reefs and discover new species of fish. For beginners, there’s no better place to learn. So slip beneath the surface and see the Caribbean from a different perspective.

Number 3: Snorkelling

If diving’s not for you, then snorkelling should be next on your list. Float on top of the warm Caribbean water and marvel at the living coral and tropical sea life beneath you. Gain an appreciation for the natural world beyond the bars and restaurants on land – without having to be a skilled swimmer.

Number 4: Sailing

Take a trip on a catamaran out into the sparkling ocean. As well as being a relaxing activity in itself, these tours take you to places often inaccessible by other means. Available on most islands, some highlights include diving into the Sulphur Springs volcano on St Lucia and swimming with stingrays in Grand Cayman’s Stingray City. What’s more, that catamaran may just serve you freshly ‘caught-that-day’ lobster.

Number 5: Swimming with Dolphins

Now this is one experience not to be missed! Many Caribbean islands offer the chance to have fun with these amazing creatures – the Dominican Republic, the Bahamas and Jamaica being the favourites. Let the dolphin tow you using their dorsal fin and perform tricks for you.

Number 6: Exploring the Forest

A Caribbean holiday is not just great for water-based activities. There are plenty of highlights on land too! The Caribbean is home to many spectacular forests full of exciting animal and plant life. Explore with a hiking tour through a cloud forest in Puerto Rico, or zip-wire through the forest canopy of St. Lucia for spectacular views. Now I bet you didn’t think about forest walks when you first thought of the Caribbean!

Number 7: Reggae in Jamaica

Reggae is the heartbeat of Jamaica, so make sure your trip to the Caribbean includes a journey into this famous musical culture. To get a real flavour of the tradition behind the music, treat yourself to the Bob Marley Experience. You’ll learn all about the Rastafarian religion as well as visiting Bob Marley’s birthplace and final resting place. Add that little bit of spiciness to your travels.

Number 8: Trinidad Carnival

Most Caribbean islands enjoy a celebration or two but perhaps the most famous festivities occur on Trinidad, which attracts people from all over the world to come and get into the party spirit. Join the carnival swing with masks, dancing and of course plenty of food and drink!

Number 9: Bacardi Rum Distillery

Rum is as much part of the Caribbean’s staple diet as jerk chicken – so the world’s largest rum distillery is a must-see. Take a guided tour of Bacardi and sample the most authentic Caribbean rum you’ll ever taste, then buy some to take home with you. While you’re there, take a trip around Old San Juan, the second oldest city in the New World, where the distillery is situated.

Number 10: Traditional Plantations

For our final top ‘must-do’ in the Caribbean, we have something that you won’t find in Britain. No trip to the Caribbean is complete without a visit to a traditional plantation house, lovingly restored to all its former glory. Enjoy an afternoon of English tea and step back in time to get a taste of life back in the 18th and 19th centuries. Anguilla’s Wallblake House is one of the few plantation houses where the whole complex has survived virtually intact.

Now there’s 10 of the very best reasons to make your holiday that little bit more spicy, that little bit more exotic and that little bit more special. The Caribbean just won’t disappoint on any level and will certainly put a smile on your face as well as a dance in your step.

All of us get tired of the humdrum of life and want to get away somewhere calm and peaceful for the holiday season. The Caribbean Islands offer the perfect getaway. It’s everything that our hectic daily life is not: sandy beaches, blue skies and turquoise waters, a bewitching landscape and nature in its most raw and pristine form. No wonder 80% of Americans pick the Caribbean, the perfect tropical paradise, as a holiday destination.

So you’ve made up your mind, packed your bags and you find yourself in the idyllic settings of the Caribbean. The first two or three days are just like being in heaven. The warm sun, the beaches that seem to stretch for miles and miles and the clean air is good enough on its own. But by the third day, the landscape alone loses its appeal.

Such is human nature, that we crave for change all the time and so we do this even while laying in the very lap of Mother Nature at its prettiest. By the third or fourth day, you’re all set to get moving, to find an activity after you’ve satisfied your appetite for natural beauty and exhausted your senses by marvelling over the picturesque surroundings you find yourself in. However, there is nothing to regret in your choice, since the Caribbean holiday is not just about good landscape and sprawling beaches. There are numerous things to do on a Caribbean Holiday, which will keep you occupied and thrilled throughout your stay.

Whether you’re much of a sportsman or not, you’ll find yourself compelled to try some of the thrilling water sports that the Caribbean is known for. From water skiing and jet skiing to canoeing, and from kite boarding to parasailing, there is a vast variety of water sports to suit your mood and disposition. Surfing is yet another hobby with Caribbean holiday makers that is appealing for the thrill it provides. Scuba diving and snorkelling are two more water sports that make the Caribbean a favourite destination for scuba divers and snorkellers. It offers the world’s best diving conditions and its exceptional caves, reefs and wrecks offer you a peek into the stunning marine life. So when it comes to things to do on a Caribbean holiday, I would say that a Caribbean holiday without indulging in water sports remains incomplete.

Talking of things to do on a Caribbean holiday, sailing is the best pastime for the ladies, and many of the holiday makers are seen sailing off to undiscovered, secluded little islands with their packed lunches, enjoying a private picnic in the midst of all the activity the main beaches are always buzzing with. For those who like to walk, a great pastime is hiking. Whether it be hiking up a volcano or walking through rainforests, the Caribbean offers an exciting terrain to explore. Yet another exciting pastime is horse riding. For those who aren’t much into walking, horse riding is an excellent way to explore the sandy beaches, lush landscape or enchanting forests of the Caribbean.

Those who would rather watch, than take part in, sport can count on the exciting range of spectator sports that are held regularly throughout the Island. From cricket, baseball and polo matches to surfing competitions, the island has it all. In addition to all this, there are the legendary Caribbean carnivals, which are held with regularity all through the year. The carnivals are rich with music, dancing and street parades and add to the festive mood of the whole place. From among the things to do on a Caribbean holiday, the carnivals are the favourite with kids and older people alike. The large variety of things to do on a Caribbean holiday, in addition to the truly picturesque backdrop that it offers, is one reason that that the Caribbean remains the most favourite holiday destination among people.
